By May 2013, chef Michel Richard closed his Revel restaurant, and it was replaced by a casual spot "in response to guests requests for a more economically priced restaurant." As USA Today notes, the property " has never turned a profit. But the property, like many others on the New Jersey shoreline, was hit hard by Hurricane Sandy in late 2012, and Revel filed for bankruptcy less than a year after opening. An ambitious 2.4 billion venture in a troubled town, Revel is the second-tallest casino tower in the country and boasted 150,00 square-feet of gaming space and almost 2000 hotel rooms. When Revel debuted back in 2012, many hoped it would revitalize the beach city's dining scene in particular: The Philly-based Garces brought three concepts to the hotel ( adding a fourth in 2013), Forgione opened a location of his steakhouse American Cut, and NYC chef Alain Allegretti debuted a new Riviera concept called Azure. Despite once featuring a "chef-driven" line-up of restaurants by the likes of Marc Forgione, Jose Garces, and Michel Richard, Atlantic City's resort property Revel has officially closed after just two years in business: As expected, USA Today reports the $2.4 billion property shuttered today, "mired in its second bankruptcy in two years."
